A periodic festival (first edition in 1999) promoting actions of artists from various cultural areas. Every year it presents theatre shows, both indoor and outdoor, performance art and site-specific actions, concerts, exhibitions, films, workshops and presentations of methods of work. Its program includes also the festival’s own productions and events, "discovering" - through artistic events – forgotten, yet historically and socially important areas of Szczecin.
The name of the festival expresses in the first place an effort to find common elements linking seemingly distant cultural forms and spaces, the need to confront tradition and modernity, promotion of both art based on source-seeking and innovative experiments, creation of the Encounter – a situation inspiring and provoking artistic interactions. The basic criterion is artistic quality combined with passion and the power of the message, openness, and the merit of creative pursuits.
Every edition of the Bonds of Culture provides the opportunity to highlight certain topics and issues we try to formulate, raising questions and determining the thematic dominant. Each time the program and the form of the festival is the result of several different elements that make up the valid and up-to-date attempt to diagnose the reality, as seen by the artists and the organizers: efforts to resonate with important events and themes, to find points of reference, to define the condition of a historically, politically and socially conditioned contemporary human being, to seek identity in relation to the cultural context. Starting from diversity, we try to indicate similarities and links, all the elements allowing us to communicate, to understand, and to build the space of encounter.
The festival is open, free of charge, non-profit and addressed to broad audience.
