OKNO – CLOSE ENCOUNTERS is an annual series of meetings with important artists who work in the fields of theatre, motion, dance and performance. It is a time when we quit of haste and hurry; we let ourselves an opportunity of a deeper exploration of ideas, techniques and tools. It is a time when we are able – together with the invited artists – to experience the process of work and through practice get closer to what constitutes the foundation and the source of their explorations.  Our guests are the artists whose paths fascinate us in some way; their experience, passion, determination and craftsmanship, shaped over many years, can become a point of reference and valuable inspiration for us. We feel that their story, their practice, their direct presence and the possibility to talk to them is one of the most valuable things that can happen thanks to such a meeting. We invite actors, dancers, founders of independent groups, cultural animators, people interested in self-development through theatre to participate in our workshops. To meetings, shows, concerts and other events we invite all those who are open to the new and who are curious about what our guests are willing to share with us. Three artistic encounters, linked by a common motto: FLOWS, accomplished in two "history-bearing" Mills, will be primarily focused on the process and work in nature.

During this year’s OKNO we would like to turn to the multidimensionality of relations between humans and the environment. We would like to reflect on the continuity of our consciousness: the way we last, the way we exist in the process of “becoming”. Human body is not an object. It is an ocean of flows and streams. Human bodies are neither closed, nor singular. Just like weather, they constantly change, participating in complex and infinite processes. They exist through relationships, contexts, spaces, origins and directions - while simultaneously creating them. We believe in the value of multi-sensory experience of our-selves-in-the-world, both in personal life and artistic practice as well. We see the meeting of somatic, vocal, motion-oriented and performative practices as a way of broadening and deepening this experience.

The events will take place at the Paper Mill in Barlinek and the Paprotno Palace. The choice of these spaces organically includes the element of "site specific" – creative research related to the place, its past, its materiality, as well as its broadly understood environment. They will be an invitation to a new kind of orientation in the area – both external and internal, personal. Tuning in to the rhythm of the “fluid body”, exploring the “watery origins” of our tissues, entangling ourselves in “sensory mandalas”, disappearing into “mosaic of air”.

Sherwood Chen in the workshop titled WAY, together with participants will research how we encounter space – forests, earth, architectural sites - the varieties, ambiguities and contradictions of how we meet them through movement and bodily presence. The formats of work that he will propose, will come from his personal poetics and will invite for diverse ways of sensing, intuiting and entering a site. At the same time they will provoke questions about imagined perceptions and cultural contaminations that impact our relationship with environment.

Shannon Cooney will share the practice of MOVEABLE CINEMA, focused on a deepened awareness of the sense of sight and vision in motion. This is part of the broader method of DYNAMIC EXPANSION, utilizing attunement to craniosacral rhythm, to the present of the “fluid body”, in improvisational motion-oriented performative explorations.

At the same time, together with Aleksandra Kotecka, Tomasz Wierzbowski and Krzysztof Paździora, we are going to reach for the “mosaic of air”, orienting ourselves to listening and the "art of disappearing", immersing ourselves in the harmony of traditional polyphonic chants.

In the final of the OKNO encounters, we are going to immerse ourselves in our "liquid origin". Exploring physical and metaphorical water environments, we will look at how liquid nature conducts different dimensions of temporality, local globality and richness of meanings and traces. We are going to explore the CONTINUUM method, according to which the waters of our being host unfathomable feelings, which allow us to emerge and walk on dry land preserving the energy of swimming. Led by Katarzyna Sitarz and Sylvain Meret – through sound, breath and action – we will deepen the possibilities of discovering inner motion, down to the primal impulses from which we are born in each moment.
