"Father: The Project" is an original theatre project. We use it to tell about the experience of parenthood from the perspective of fathers. The script is a compilation of texts of fathers-authors of Internet blogs, a books on fatherhood, and personal texts written by actors-fathers participating in the production.
(...) The structure of the play, even though the text is composed of the works of several authors, is very consistent and it leads us from the moment a child is still in a womb to the moment when a man sees – a bit through the prism of his own dad – his already very wise kids, and he is so touched that he shed some tears. In between there is a very instructive and perfectly performed tale of fathers simply want to be the best for their children. (Hubert Pelka, tatakarola.blogspot.com)
In "Father: The Project" we want to tell how young men find themselves today in the role of fathers, what the experience of fatherhood gives them, whether (and how) they differ from their female partners in the approach to raising children, whether they manage to reconcile their duties as parents with earning money to support their family. We want to learn what the society and their families expect from fathers, and whether they are able to cope with them. We also want to touch the issue of the rights of fathers (Are there situations in which fathers are treated worse than mothers? Does the state support fathers in completing their parental duties?). "Father: The Project" is a "response" to "Mother: The Project" - a production showing the experience of parenthood from the mothers’ perspective (premiered in September 2014 at the Kana Centre Theatre, script and directed by Mateusz Przyłęcki). The discussions with the audience after performances of the latter production led us to conclusion that there is also a need to tell about the experience of being a parent from the perspective of young fathers. We want our production, and accompanying workshops and meetings to help fathers-to-be to accustom with the experience of fatherhood; we want it to become a support for men who are already fathers and who every day experience various difficulties associated with this fact. We want the general public to be informed about and sensitize on important issues related to fatherhood. We want to popularize positive role models of self-conscious and committed fatherhood.
Director: Mateusz Przyłęcki
