"Dwa pokoje" [Two rooms] is a theatre action constructed by means of method called "drawing from memory".
Drawings from memory demand double attentiveness towards what comes from the past (and might become public in this process) and towards us – private recipients of memories. Value of these drawings is determined by the fact that it was possible to bind and connectthe private with the public, the reasoned with the intuitive, the recalled with the felt.
The second part of the project is the transfer of actions and narratives – derived from the urban action carried out on 29 and 30 August 2015 as part of the 71st anniversary of the termination of the Litzmannstadt Ghetto – into the theatre space. Both parts are focused on those areas of the history of the Litzmannstadt Ghetto which have been known only to archivists until now.
The action "Dwa pokoje" is an interdisciplinary event dedicated to the memory of the Litzmannstadt Ghetto. It combines research, documentary and artistic activities inspired by the past of the city of Łódź, its present day and its architecture pointing out at those areas of topography that are forgotten or ignored due to their painful and ambiguous history, so typical to the region.
The project led by Weronika Fibich (The Kana Theatre, Szczecin), the Szwalnia Theatre team and independent artists, was co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the Marek Edelman Centre for Dialogue in Łódź.
