OKNO - CLOSE ENCOUNTERS: VOICES OF THE KANA
AROUND THE DRAWING FROM MEMORY
WERONIKA FIBICH

Weronika Fibich has been creating her own auteur performances, actions, installations, films, performative activities and artistic interventions for over a dozen years. Her work, often located between the private and the public, is built in close relationship with selected communities. She worked with shipyard and harbour workers, residents of the homeless shelter, habitants of Niebuszewo (one of Szczecin’s districts), and Bałuty (one of Lodz’s districts), Gryfino, Stolec, Kashubian villages, with some Lublin-based family, with refugees from Chechnya, people with disabilities, seniors, actors and theatre technicians.

Each meeting of this kind she considers a reconnaissance – a way of learning places, times, people, and memories; encountering the past; discovering details; listening to clamour and silence; reducing noises; careful re-creation of tissues; distillation of images; decrypting non-obvious traces. Each of them contributed to the unique path of the auteur who defies classification and always tries to confront herself – and the viewers – with the understated.

The drawing from memory is her many-year project of the encounter with the most difficult issues and the most difficult silence, with memory of people affected by history. It is also the first of events devoted to the path of Weronika Fibich within the series Voices of the Kana. During these three-day meetings we would like to invite everyone willing to talk with psychologist Ala Goldblum Elczewska, listen to her lecture and participate in workshops led by her. The three-day even includes also be a concert “for clarinet and silence” by Paweł Szamburski, a performative action by Ewa Łukaszewicz and Weronika Fibich, as well as workshops with the authors of the action.
