Vegard Vinge & Ida Muller - WINDOW 2019

Okno – Close Encounters. The Kana’s Voices. Duration: 747 min. (?)

Vegard Vinge and Ida Müller

"The Segal Center is honored to welcome the notorious Norwegian/German theatre duo Vegard Vinge and Ida Müller in their first visit to the U.S. Throughout the last decade, Vinge and Müller have managed to scandalize European audiences through gothic somberness and seemingly naïve aesthetics. They often indulge in transgressive improvisation, body fluids, violence, masks, and excessive make-up to create a new and ironically monstrous Total-Work-of-Art. Their shocking, delightful, and thoughtful defiling of the Ibsen corpus provided fresh perspectives and commentary on these classic texts, while creating an outrageously original theatre language. Their maximalist and extremist aesthetics have earned them multiple awards and invitations to Europe’s most prestigious stages, including their former artistic home, The Volksbühne Berlin."

These words were used by Andrew Seagal who invited the audience for all day screenings including large excerpts from film recording of performances by Vegard Vinge and Ida Müller and the discussion with the duet – the event which took place in October 2018 in New York. The Kana Theatre Centre would like to invite for to the first event of its kind to take place in Europe. However, it will not be their first visit of Vegard Vinge and Ida Müller in Szczecin. Ten years ago, during their first European tour, besides Linz they went to Szczecin where they participated in the OKNO festival. At that time no one was able to predict the scale of their international success. Today they are considered the most spectacular and controversial artists of contemporary theatre. No one can predict whether the encounter with them will take 5 minutes or 10 hours and no one can tell if we see any of registration of their shows: “Ghosts”, “A Doll’s House”, “John Gabriel Borkman”, “Nationaltheater Reinickendorf + Masterbuilder Solness”.
