Between 8 and 21 August 2020, about twenty people met in Młyn-Papiernia near Barlinek as part of the OKNO – CLOSE ENCOUNTERS project, listening to what dances inside, around and between them. The film is a record of motions, disclosures and deviations of that time.
The screening of the film "This landscape is in my bones" is the final event of this year’s edition of the OKNO – CLOSE ENCOUNTERS project.
OKNO is a project of education through practice - for over twenty years, we have been connecting experienced artists who are important for us and young people for whom theatre is becoming an important part of life: founders of independent groups, animators of informal culture, artistic outsiders, as well as all those interested in self-education through theatre.
This year, the thematic link of the subsequent events of OKNO is "Body in motion". Focusing this edition on the closest materiality available to us: body, dance, motion, improvisation, our somatic aspect, inevitably leads us to questions about closeness, touch, corporeality, sexuality, being with oneself, with one’s own body and in relation to other bodies, environments, landscapes, spaces. What is this “me-body” when I am left alone with it? Where is the borderline between it and what is around it: environment, space, architecture? What kind of closeness can we create in a situation of politically-imposed and health-related limitations of physical distance? What kind of dance does contemporary space invite us to?
Between August and December 2020, four ENCOUNTERS took place, devoted to different directions, areas and methods currently explored in the field of dance theatre in its broadest sense. We invited outstanding educators, choreographers, dancers and performers - practitioners who work according to the systems they explored, both with professional dancers and with people who treat movement and dance as a way of self-development. The 1st ENCOUNTER – “Body in space/body environment” – hosted Sherwood Chen and Sigal Zouk. The 2nd ENCOUNTER – “Inner Body/Attentive – hosted Idan Yoav and Katarzyna Sitarz. The 3rd ENCOUNTER – “Carnality of images/Reality of dreams” – was built by Anna Nowicka. The 4th ENCOUNTER – “Alternative motility” – was devoted to Rafał Urbacki’s working methods.
The OKNO – CLOSE ENCOUNTERS 2020 project was co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage from the Fund for the Promotion of Culture, obtained from subsidies established in the games covered by the state monopoly, in accordance with Article 80, paragraph 1 of the Gambling Act of 19 November 2009.
