(the movie is in Ukrainian language with Polish subtitles; a meeting translated into Ukrainian)

"The Hamlet Syndrome" presents young generation of Ukrainians marked by the war and the political breakthrough. The movie's starting point is the theatre rehearsal for the play loosely based on Shakespeare's Hamlet. Rehearsals combined with entering private lives of the artists create a touching portrait of the generation that tries to overcome war trauma and painful past which, after the Russian invasion on Ukraine, has become their reality.
(Poland, Germany, 2022, Barwny, 85 min)
'The audience of the play is not able to distance themselves from the tragic events that are being recalled. There is also no distance between the actors and the camera that films them. The creators achieved the rare art of capturing emotions in statu nascendi. The actors never look directly at the lens, they don't expose the camera which, not only, pierces through the stages fourth wall, but all possible grounds.'
