WAY
A forest, while being defined as its own site, is a community of trees, flora and fauna in tension and cooperation. To occupy a forest with our human bodies and senses, loaded with romance and colonial dynamics, yields an infinite number of possible ways to meet it. Correctly or incorrectly intuiting a singular site through sensorial and imagined perception instantly renders it and its perceiver, contrarily, prismatic.

What can it mean then for this seven-day summer gathering of Polish artists in fruitful exchange with artists across borders to meet creatively off-the-grid?

This laboratory emphasizes site-specific performance research, which allows each participant to explore Chen's poetic and at times obliquely politicized proposals in their own personal ways. The intensive laboratory will include: rigorous outdoors training directly on dew-drenched earth; sensory walks and works in the sylvan [Polish regional / historical name] countryside; and durational work to tenderize and re-route time and its relation to space.

In addition to considering the land and its seen and unseen histories and folklores, participants will acknowledge and respond to facets of the historical 18th-century paper and grain mill where they live and research individually and collectively, as much in the shadows as in the flame, phonelight, sun and waxing moonlight.
