Places and Borders. The Local Feast.

Places and Borders. The Local Feast.

Border space is an essential element of a rite of passage, a zone of suspension in which ranks, roles, and systems are temporary reversed. The perspective of “what’s is abroad” causes anxiety yet at the same time it tempts and triggers imagination. Border and its concept is constantly transforming, pervading the interior – it bends the fixed structure and image. In result, borderland is heterogeneous, different from the center, yet what is at the edge, or rather at the contact point – another promise – may be the most interesting.

The intriguing history of the border village of Stolec (once called Stolzenburg – the seat of the famous Pomeranian family von Ramin, and after the WW2 – the westernmost post of the Border Guard Army), with all contemporary border contexts, has been a source of inspiration for us for several years. We have been exploring this area, listening to rhythms, sounds, stories of Polish and German inhabitants. The image composed of individual stories gradually loses its unambiguity, giving the place a personal, unique character. Entrusting them to us is an important act of trust, a visible sign of the relationship resulting from the time spent together, the space and the circumstances. This year, we decided to move the boundaries of the relationship even further by proposing the residents to create a local feast together. This is a non-obvious way, full of surprises, requiring revision of opinions about one another, yet it is extremely inspiring. We also invited several of artists which are important to us, open to experiment and sensitive to work in an individual space. We will find out soon where it will lead us.
