“What is squat? Squat is a home”
We invite you to the premiere screening of alex libertad's movie telling the story of an anarchist collective from Wrocław called Hulajpole, which in 2019 occupied an abandoned villa that was to be demolished. With their own effort, they created an autonomous space from the neglected building - the Piotr Kropotkin Social Home.
Built on the statements of the collective's members and archival recordings, the movie delves deeply into the everyday life of a seemingly closed community. It addresses the issues of justice, caring for others, state power and capitalism, and housing policy in Poland.
Thanks to the images, statements and personal statements of the protagonists, it overturns a number of stereotypes about squats - it creates a moving universal story about the search for an alternative in the modern world, cracks that provide space for the realization of basic longings and values: closeness, care, independence, freedom.
After the film, we invite you to a meeting with the creator and the protagonists of the movie.
The evening will end with a solo concert by a Wrocław musician and activist associated with anarchist circles - Hubert Kostkiewicz.
alex libertad - a multidisciplinary artist associated with Szczecin for several years, born in 1992. He creates moving and sounding installations, deals with noise music, criticizes systems of power and creates anarchist films.
The Kana Theatre hosted the premieres of his two previous films: "Wycieci" about a semi-imaginary journey of anarchist dissidents imprisoned in Belarus, and "Zupa wielowarzywna" about the Szczecin group Food Not Bombs.
Hubert Kostkiewicz - associated with the group The Kurws, on a daily basis collaborates with the post-punk band Atol Atol Atol. Musician, organizer, cultural animator and journalist. He has played several hundred concerts and organized at least as many. Currently, he is exploring the areas of abstract electroacoustic and improvised music.
The event is carried out as part of the Kana Theatre's program direction called artivism led by Weronika Fibich and Rafał Foremski.
