In 2019 – the year of twentieth edition of the festival and the fortieth anniversary of the Kana Theatre – we would like to take a closer look at the most important issues, topics, problems and questions that we try to ask during the whole-year work of the Centre. The festival has always been for us a witness of the times we are in and of the way we perceive the reality. It was our dialogue both with the urban space and the uncertainty of contemporary world. Each time it was also the re-established feast of community, the encounter of cultures and values. The last two editions referred to the concept of “circular time”: they accumulated dozens of festival events in twenty-four hours, the time necessary for clock arms to make the full circle. This time – also making a circle – we want to extend this time, to slow it down, to divide it to days, to discuss with the meanings when they emerge and to give the chance for unhurried, but in-depth encounters focused on particular topics. We therefore evoke the symbolism of the Week, also circular. Each of the seven days will be focused on an in-deep encounter with one of the areas important for us: with auteur creations in the context of site-specific art, with education and promotion of the off-theatre, with documentary theatre, with presentations of world cultures, with the dialogue with tradition, with experimental theater, with diagnosis of social space of the City. Each day will be a fragment of a separate path that makes up our common way.
