"Scholars and critics still struggle with the fundamental problem: how to write about off-theatre effectively? The tools that allow them to deal with the artistic aspect of activities of independent theatre groups are often not adequate to describe their sociological-cultural phenomenon, crucially important for some off-theatres in Poland. One of them is the Goleniów-based Brama Theatre, regarding the creative process as more important than effect of its activity. This attitude is well illustrated byDrogaBramy by Marta Poniatowska, the volume published to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the theatre. The book in many respects resembles a reportage and offers an interesting alternative to the academic way of describing an off-theatre. DrogaBramy is based on conversations with people associated with the theatre (either as members of the acting team or as partners, friends and collaborators) and creates an impressive polyphony . . . The author presents the millieuof people of various biographies and personalities, bond by shared experience of work in the theatre and by awareness of two decades of tradition . . . candidness and informality of most statements make the book really enchanting and its clear and clever graphic design facilitates reading". Dominik Gac ("Teatr", 11/2016)
"Droga Bramy by Marta Poniatowskais not only one of few publications about off- theatres. This book is really unique. Although published on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of theBrama Theatre, it is NOT a collection of photographs and extracts from the reviews. Besides the chronicle of events, it includes very important statements of people for whom "Brama" was an important experience. In short: if you want to understand the essence of off-theatre, you should read this book".
