"immer noch Schnee und Eis" Szostak / Fibich
They came for them at night. They ordered the property to be written down and the keys to be handed over. They had half an hour to take the most necessary things. After closing the windows and doors, extinguishing the fire in the furnace, they took them to the freight station. They didn't tell them where they were going. They waited a long time for loading. The trip lasted three days. Wagons without heating and not a drop of water. As they got out, they saw snow, a huge blanket of white as far as the eye could see.
In the first part of the project, Natalia Szostak and Weronika Fibich installed blocks of ice in the city space with sunken, handwritten lists of people who were in the deportation transport from Stettin in February 1940. Melting ice cubes appeared in Niebuszewo at the addresses of four victims of the same deportation.
The project is continued at Trafostacja Sztuki. The content of previously rewritten letters is read aloud by the authors and recorded. Their duet is played inside a room with a negative temperature. Under the ice sheet, the dark outline of the photograph is visible, the photosensitive record of the faces of a woman and a man. The words after them, when read again, swell, take the shape and weight of a foreign body.
