"2016 was my Kurdish year. In May, after years of waiting for a safe moment and a long preparation process, I went to Kurdistan. It was possible thanks to the support of Kurds, Sihada and Ariana Khalil living in Łódź, who organized my stay and protection. The documentation of the expedition was to serve as a material for the creation of a script for a theatre performance presenting the path of Iraqi Kurdistan to independence. I used an amateur video camera recording over 10 hours of film. Impact of most of these recordings and the overabundance of the filmed resulted in changing my plans: I gave up the idea of theatre production and focused on the Kurds. The result is a video-report showing lives of residents of Iraqi Kurdistan on the eve of independence, with elements heroic tragicomedy". (Marcin Brzozowski)
